Go West Young Man

We made it!
The hobos we are, we're sitting on the couch of a friend called last minute because of an apparent miscommunication between Kelli and I.
Regardless, the trip went splendidly. The car rarely shifted out of 5th on the plains, less than $100 on gas, next to no traffic, only a slight dusting of snow once we hit denver, we really couldn't complain. I also realized that the plains are far more beautiful than I ever remembered. Maybe it was the sun and lighting out my side of the car, or maybe it was the fact I was awake for significantly more of the driving than ever before, but I found that wide open spaces and blue skies go well together. The mountains remain in the clouds, so black cows in gold fields remain the the best sights thus far.

Other notes, there are lots of cows in Nebraska and Colorado, and a couple large fields of wind farming, which felt very ominous. Notice the size of the truck at the base of the urbine. More photos are on facebook, since I know most of you also have that.

Beautiful shots, Mattie. Did Spence stop the car once in awhile so you could get a good shot? ... or did he refuse to stop on the highway like Dad did ;-)?
I also enjoy the plains in winter. It reduces everything to texture and color.
Glad you made it! I will continue to pray for Spencer's future ...and the car.

Yay photo thoughts (referring to your last phrase)! I was quite happy for the lack of snow, there definitely was a LOT of "texture" and cool color. And no, we didn't ever stop. We considered turning around to get the Platte River (check out facebook), because the light was perfect but a bridge was in the way. 2 main reasons for not stopping: 1, I only brought my point and shoot, There is very limited space, it didn't seem worth it. 2, at that point we didn't want to stop for fear of not getting back into 5th. Part of me likes the imperfections, I titled them my drive-by shootings.

Also wanted to let you know Spencer bought some mittens and he is very happy and thankful.

So, is Spencer talking in the third person? Or did Mattie just forget her login?

oops! that's weird, nope it was me, on Spencer's computer.

another update, he made it safely up the mountain, 5th gear didn't like the hills though. He is moved in and meeting people.
