ArtPrize

So ArtPrize started last week and has been so much fun! We went downtown with some friends last Friday night and the city was ALIVE- so fun! I went again on Sunday with my Mom (Reuben had too much homework, grading, etc) and once again, there were people everywhere! It's great to see GR so lively! The competition is all based on popular vote and this past week, each person had to register to vote and could vote "thumbs up" for as many of the artists as you wish, but only one vote per artist. The top 10 artists out of 1262 were announced yesterday, so today starts the voting out of the top 10. Voters each only get to place on vote out of the top 10, and the places are announced next week. All 10 finalists get cash prizes.

Friday night ArtPrize festivities.
On the Blue Bridge: "The Furniture City sets the Table for the World of Art"- one of the top 10

Awesome wood carving, but a little freaky.... "The Hermit"
In the river... "The Grand Dance".... it stays lighted and the colors change- one of the top 10.
"Nessie on the Grand" - one of the top 10
I don't know what this was called, but it was a video production on the side of the BOB.
Under the big table.
The Red Ball looking somewhat deflated when I glimpsed it. It has been moving all over the city.
"100,000 Paper Airplanes and Melodies over Monroe"... was pretty cool in that it gathered a huge crowd and whoever wanted could bring their instruments to play a pre-planned melody together. However, I had imagined paper airplane everywhere for a few minutes and this didn't happen. Instead, airplanes were released at 5 minute intervals from the tops of buildings that were far apart... just not as cool as it could've been.
"Portraits"- 3 pictures of women.... except not photos at all... they are made completely out of pushpins! This is another one of the top 10 and I think my favorite overall. It will probably get my vote, although I haven't seen every piece in the top 10- yet.
Don't remember this name either.... I though it was kinda cool.
"My Wife in Wine Corks".... yep, made completely out of wine corks- really cool.
Some crowd pictures.....

In San Chez and Madcap... every place we went in was packed!

Looks like a good event for GR. I wish we had been there to see it.
