Identify This Bird...

OK, we think he's a Sandpiper, but can't figure out what kind. Maybe he's a baby. We might have to ask Steve...

It looks to me like a Wood Sandpiper. But they live in the European Highlands and migrate to Africa. Perhaps they carry coconuts. They could grip it by the husk.
Looks like it was a good trip. How were the stars?

Its not a questioin of where he grips it, its a simple question of weight ratios. A five ounce bird could not carry a 10 ounce coconut.

What if two birds carried using a string?

The tensile strength needed for a string to carry a 10 oz. coconut would cause the weight ratio to be increased by at least another 5 ounces. That fact is courtesy of ninth grade physical science.

Rasputan. Actually it was Jerry Van Vliet who was the man of science who was so well versed in the ways of tensile stregnth.
